International Men’s Day — Our salute to you today
Today is International Men’s Day. It’s a day to recognise and acknowledge the achievements, and accomplishments of men, however small. International Men’s Day is also an opportunity to raise awareness of men’s mental health. You may be reading this blog, and feeling exhausted, battle-weary, and on the point of giving up. Let this day be the day where you take a step back from being all things to all people and allow others to celebrate you, just for being who you are. When I speak about being all things to all people, I am referring to your multiple roles, as a husband, dad, son, grand-dad, uncle, nephew, colleague, grand-son, and friend.
May International Men’s Day be a day where others focus on your needs for once and thank you for being the hero, the warrior, the champion, and the protector that you are. Whatever your profession, whether you are in the healthcare sector or not, you, my friend, fought the toughest war in our lifetime, Yes, sir, you were in the trenches, fighting an unseen invisible airborne enemy, which came to kill, steal and destroy. You fought tooth and nail to keep us safe, in the hospitals, in the offices, in the workplace, in the hospitality sector and in the family home. When you faced furlough and job losses you stayed strong for us, even when you felt broken inside. When you faced death in the face, you fought tooth and nail to survive. When you lost everything and was emotionally crushed inside, you managed to hold things together, no matter how painful it got. You deserve the Hero’s award. May you know today, how much you are loved, you are seen, you are valued and appreciated by God. Today on Men’s International Day, we stand with you and we salute you.
