Men Giving Life a Second Chance — Part Four
If you are dealing with thoughts of hopelessness and feel that you are on the brink of despair, I wish to offer you today the Romans 12:2 principle as a one of the key techniques to empower you to give life a second chance. The Romans 12;2 principle come from the Bible and speaks of life transformation by the renewing of the mind. What this means essentially is that how a person thinks often determines how he or she feels. A transformed life starts first and foremost by replacing negative thought patterns and false beliefs by new uplifting thoughts of hope, encouragement, optimism and opportunities. If we think negatively, we maintain a pessimistic mindset, and inevitably become depressed. The Romans 12:2 principle is about changing our thinking.
Let’s say for example, you view the world negatively and your life seems to be a series of obstacles, burdens and defeats. You feel that your world is falling apart and your life is going down the drain. How would you apply the Romans 12:2 principle here? You could renew your mind now by thinking that yes there is no doubt you are facing challenges. However, this is a temporary setback which is propelling you to a life of success and victory. Before an arrow is released into the air , it is drawn back by the bow. Imagine yourself as the arrow, you feel that you are being drawn back by the bow of life. There will come a time, when you would be released by that bow of life to your destiny, and life’s purpose. If you are feeling suicidal over a marital separation or relationship breakdown today. What if this setback, is preparing you to bring comfort in future to those individuals (you have never yet met) who are heartbroken ? What if this dark period in your life is shaping you to be more wise, to have more compassion, to be more understanding and more empathic towards the broken-hearted? Could it be you are in a season of training, where you will graduate to helping others walk through similar pain?
How would you apply the Romans 12;2 principle if you are viewing yourself negatively? How would you renew your mind if your thoughts are telling you that you are inadequate, unworthy, incapable of performing adequately and lacking in skills. If we apply now the Romans 12;2 principle, I would say that you are admirable, praiseworthy, courageous for even just reading this blog. I commend you for taking that step to give life a second chance. I would also say that there is greatness in you. You were born to be great. Whatever challenges you face today, you are an overcomer, you are more than a conqueror and you are victorious. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. You are a mighty warrior, endowed with gifts, talents, skills which this world is waiting for. You are beautifully, fearfully and wonderfully made. You have purpose. You have the strength to overcome. You will get through this. Keep running the race sir. Keep on keeping on. I salute you today hero.
