What to do when you feel stuck?
Have you reached a point in your goal setting when you have felt stuck? You started the new year brainstorming your list of new year resolutions, and three months down the line, you haven’t implemented anything on your list? You are now starting to feel discouraged and lacking in momentum as you stare at your list of unactioned items. There is hope. The good news is that it is never too late, to dust off your dreams and goals to start all over. The key is not to retreat, not give up and not stop.
How do you get yourself unstuck from actioning your goals? What I find helpful, is to find task related to your goal, that is rapid, straightforward and easy, that will give you the quickest wins. Let me give you an example. If your goal is to lose weight this year, an example of a quick win is to reach for and eat an apple, rather than munch on the bar of brownies. If you are seeking a new relationship, a quick win, will be registering for a social event. You never know if this social event will be an opportunity where you will meet “the one”. Take the one step that will move you forward and you will find that you will build up momentum to take steps towards your other goals.
Dig out your new year resolution or your list of goals if you have one, write down the one step you will take towards actioning that goal. Remember this needs to be straightforward, rapid and easy to give you that quick win boost.
Taking the one step is more powerful, than taking no steps at all.
